Russia may use Belarusian territory to launch kamikaze drones against western regions of Ukraine, particularly along the strategic M-06 Kyiv–Chop highway, which serves as a key logistics route for supplies from Poland.
This is reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Analysts note that Moscow could use Minsk’s statements regarding the alleged appearance of Ukrainian drones in Belarusian airspace as a pretext for “retaliatory strikes” and further escalation.
According to ISW estimates, the deployment of Russian assets in Belarus will enable deeper and more precise strikes on Ukrainian ground logistics routes in the west and northwest of the country.
Specifically, this refers to the possibility of attacks by Shahed- and Molniya-type drones on the M-06 highway and railway corridors that facilitate supplies from Poland to Ukraine.
Analysts emphasize that Russian forces are already striking western regions of Ukraine from their own territory, but using the Belarusian route could increase the precision and effectiveness of attacks, particularly against moving targets.
The ISW report also notes that such statements from Belarus may be part of information preparation for the expansion of Russia’s military use of its territory, particularly for strikes on critical infrastructure and logistics facilities in Ukraine’s rear.
Ukraine has already identified the first 500 targets on Belarusian territory that could be struck should the Lukashenko regime enter the war against Ukraine.
In the event of an attempt at a new offensive from Belarusian territory, the enemy willface a strong defense and challenging natural conditions that significantly hinder any advance. Ukrainian analysts and military officials assert that a repeat of the 2022 scenario is no longer possible. The threat from the north persists, but its actual capabilities are significantly limited.
