Russia has begun using a new Geran-4 jet drone against Ukraine

Russia has begun using a new Geran-4 jet drone against Ukraine

Since May 2026, the Russian military has been deploying the new "Geran-4" jet-powered strike drone against Ukraine; this model is significantly faster, more maneuverable, and more dangerous than previous versions.

This was reported in an official statement by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The new weapon was designed to counter Ukrainian air defense systems.

Russia previously assembled the "Geran-3" jet versions based on the airframe of the conventional gasoline-powered "Geran-2." However, this airframe proved insufficiently robust for high-speed flight and active maneuvering.

As a result, the Russians developed a completely new airframe with a reinforced structure and improved aerodynamics. The new "Geran-4" variant was developed in response to the effectiveness of Ukrainian interceptor drones.

The unmanned aerial vehicle’s design underwent significant engineering changes to increase its strength.

The wings are now fixed to the central fuselage, and there are fewer access hatches on the airframe itself, which has significantly reduced air resistance.

At the same time, the aircraft’s dimensions remain standard: 3.5 meters in length and 3 meters in width (wingspan).

The primary source of thrust for the new model is two types of Chinese-made turbojet engines. Experts identified the downed engines as Telefly LX-WP-160 models with 160 kg of thrust, which have since been discontinued.

The occupiers are also installing the Telefly TF-TJ2000A with a thrust of 200 kg, which was previously used on the “Geran-5.”

The updated aerodynamic design allows the drone to perform complex maneuvers at speeds ranging from 300 to 400 km/h and accelerate up to 500 km/h.

According to military intelligence, the drone is capable of climbing to an altitude of up to 5,000 meters and flying a distance of up to 450 kilometers. This significantly complicates its interception using traditional mobile fire units.

Russians attacked Naftogaz facilities in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions

The Astana International Financial Center Court has authorized the compulsory collection of approximately $1.4 billion from the Russian company Gazprom in favor of Naftogaz of Ukraine.

As a reminder, in 2025, mobile internet was cut off in Russia more than 11,000 times.

Additionally, sanctions, the loss of foreign markets, and the deterioration of the global economic situation have exposed the structural weakness of Russia’s regional budgets.
