Russia has attacked the Sumy region more than 50 times in the past 24 hours; there are casualties

Over the course of 24 hours, from the morning of July 16 to the morning of July 17, Russian troops carried out more than 50 shelling attacks on the Sumy region. Thirty settlements in 15 territorial communities came under enemy fire.

Eleven people were injured as a result of the Russian attacks. Authorities continue to assess the damage caused by the shelling and verify details regarding the destruction.

In the Sumy city community, a 60-year-old woman and two men, aged 57 and 67, were injured as a result of a guided aerial bomb strike. A 28-year-old man was injured when a UAV struck.

A 71-year-old man was wounded and a 69-year-old woman suffered an acute stress reaction as a result of guided aerial bomb strikes in Sumy in the evening.


A woman who had been hospitalized following a guided aerial bomb strike on July 3 died in the hospital. The injuries she sustained in the attack were not severe. However, during her examination, doctors discovered a severe, late-stage underlying medical condition.

In the Shostka city community, a 29-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man were injured when a UAV struck near a store.

In the Bilopil community, a 60-year-old woman was injured when an enemy UAV struck.

On the Sumy–Bilany highway, a 4-year-old girl was injured when a Russian drone struck near her car.

In the Seredyna-Budsk community, a 55-year-old man was injured as a result of mortar shelling.

Two women, aged 40 and 74, who were injured on July 15 as a result of mortar shelling in the Seredyna-Budsk community, sought medical attention.

As noted by the Regional State Administration, a 51-year-old woman, as well as women aged 64, 72, and 78, who were injured when an enemy UAV struck a house, were mistakenly included on July 16 in the list of casualties in the Sumy community. The strike occurred in the Richkiv community.

The highest number of Russian attacks was recorded in the Sumy and Shostka districts.

The enemy used mortars, artillery, FPV drones, UAVs, and guided aerial bombs.

In the Bilopil community, a multi-family residential building, a private residential house, a farm building, non-residential premises, and a passenger car were damaged.

In the Stepanivska community, non-residential premises and civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged.

In the Richkiv community, civilian infrastructure facilities, private residential buildings, and a farm building were damaged.

In the Buryn community, a private residential house was damaged.

In the Novoslobodsk community, private residential homes were destroyed.

In the Khutir-Mykhailivska community, a truck was damaged.

In the Velyka Pysarivka community, a private residential house was damaged.

In the Seredyna-Bud community, one private residential house was destroyed and another was damaged.

In the Zno-Novgorod community, private residential homes and outbuildings were damaged,

In the Nedryhailiv community, civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged.

In the Sumy community, administrative buildings, office buildings, library facilities, stores, apartment buildings, private residential homes, residential and non-residential premises, outbuildings, and passenger cars were damaged.

In the Yampil, Shalygyn, and Krasnopil communities, civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged.

In the Seredyna-Buda, Esman, Shostka, Zno-Novgorod, and Hlukhiv communities, residential buildings, outbuildings, and property were damaged as a result of earlier strikes.

Two people were evacuated from border communities over the past 24 hours.

The Sumy Regional Military Administration reported this on Facebook.

As a result of a massive Russian strike on the capital, a rented humanitarian warehouse belonging to the Ukrainian Red Cross was completely destroyed; it had stored over 320,000 items of cargo and equipment with a total value of over 79 million hryvnias

As a result of Russian shelling and a fire at one of the capital’s enterprises, fuel and lubricants flowed into Kyrylivskyi Lake in Kyiv through the storm sewer system.
