Russia spreads fake letter from French companies to Zelensky

Russia spreads fake letter from French companies to Zelensky

Russian propagandists circulated a forged video in the name of Euronews, allegedly showing French businesses making demands to President Zelensky.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Centre for Countering Disinformation.

Russian Telegram channels launched a disinformation campaign using a manipulative clip bearing the Euronews logo. The video claimed that over 200 French company directors had supposedly signed an open letter to the President of Ukraine, demanding an immediate peace treaty with Russia due to business losses. The Centre for Countering Disinformation and official Euronews sources confirmed that such material never existed, and the claim about a collective letter is entirely fabricated.

Using the branding of reputable media remains a classic tool of Russian propaganda to legitimise fake news in the eyes of Western and Ukrainian audiences. The main goal of this false narrative is to create the impression that European business is tired of the war and is pressuring Ukraine’s leadership. These operations aim to undermine trust in international partners and destabilise the domestic situation by manipulating economic factors.

The Centre for Countering Disinformation also reported that rumours circulating on hostile Telegram channels about the alleged killing of an employee of the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centre in Kharkiv are fake.

Additionally, the Kremlin is spreading a false narrative that Trump’s position on Greenland is influenced by Putin’s approach to Crimea.
