Russia Lost More Than 42,000 Troops in July — NY Post
July was one of the bloodiest months for the Russian army since the start of the full-scale war. Over the course of the month, Russia lost 42,860 troops killed or wounded.
This figure is the highest since January 2025 and the fourth-highest monthly casualty toll for Russia since the start of the war.
According to expert estimates, the Russian army’s total losses are approaching 1.5 million troops. At the same time, Russia is facing increasing difficulties in recruiting new soldiers.
Against this backdrop, Russia is stepping up its recruitment efforts, in particular by promising “peaceful service” to Russians and enlisting foreigners, notably from African countries.
Meanwhile, according to the publication, Ukrainian forces on the southern front have liberated approximately 780 square kilometers of territory and regained control of 26 settlements. Russian troops have been pushed back more than 11 km.

On the night of August 15, Ukrainian defense forces struck several key targets on Russian territory simultaneously. Among them were the “Progress” rocket and space center in the Samara region and the “Savasleika” military airfield in the Nizhny Novgorod region. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian “Flamingo” missiles were used in the strike on “Progress.”
Over the past 24 hours, the Russian army lost another 1,370 soldiers in Ukraine. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, since the start of the full-scale war, Russia’s total personnel losses have already reached approximately 1,465,810.
On the front lines over the past day, August 14, there were 233 combat engagements between Ukrainian troops and Russian occupiers. The Russians actively used aircraft and drones: they carried out 71 airstrikes, dropped 241 guided bombs, and launched 10,626 kamikaze drones.
