Russia is rapidly increasing the number of attack drones it is using to strike Ukraine. The Air Force says that operations are becoming increasingly difficult because the enemy is launching hundreds of “Shaheds” simultaneously. This was reported by Deputy Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force Pavlo Yelizarov (call sign “Lazar”) during a speech, an excerpt of which was released by the TV channel “Novyny.Live.”
According to Deputy Commander of the Air Force Pavlo Yelizarov, during one of the massive attacks, the Russians launched 741 drones at Ukraine. Most of them were shot down or intercepted, but some still reached their targets.
The Russian army continues to escalate the scale of its air attacks on Ukraine. This was stated during a speech by Deputy Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force Pavlo Yelizarov, call sign “Lazar.” An excerpt from his speech was shown by the “Novyny.Live” TV channel.
According to the military official, during just one of the attacks, Russia launched 741 Shahed-type strike drones at Ukraine. Despite the enormous number of targets, Ukrainian air defense forces were able to shoot down or neutralize nearly all of the drones. “Only 23 Shaheds reached their targets,” Yelizarov noted.
At the same time, he emphasized that even these results do not mean the threat has diminished. According to him, the burden on Ukraine’s air defense is constantly growing. “This in no way relieves us of responsibility for the fact that these ‘Shaheds’ reached their targets. The work, in fact, is becoming harder and harder because the number of ‘Shaheds’ launched simultaneously is rapidly increasing,” he emphasized.
The Air Force has repeatedly stated that Russia is changing its airstrike tactics. The occupiers are launching drones in large waves, attempting to overwhelm Ukrainian air defense and force it to expend more resources.
In addition, Russian troops are combining “Shahed” attacks with strikes using various types of missiles. This is how the enemy is trying to complicate the work of air defense systems and increase the number of hits. In recent months, massive nighttime attacks have become a regular occurrence. Both large cities and energy, industrial, and civilian infrastructure facilities are under attack.
Ukrainian military officials emphasize that the effectiveness of air defense remains high; however, to protect the country’s airspace, additional air defense systems, missiles for them, and modern counter-drone capabilities are still needed.
