Russia is once again threatening Ukraine with an "Oreshnik" strike
Russia may use the “Oreshnik” ballistic missile against Ukraine again in the near future. A Russian lawmaker stated that Moscow could resort to such a strike in the event of “new attacks.”
According to him, a new strike is allegedly possible if the number of attacks and “terrorist acts against the civilian population” increases.
“A new ‘Oreshnik’ strike against Ukraine could take place in the near future,” Kolesnik said. The Russian lawmaker also cited a further alleged “increase in the frequency of attacks” as a condition for using the missile.
The Russian lawmaker’s new threats came amid intensified peace talks aimed at ending the war and successful strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on targets deep inside Russia. Ukraine has recently been regularly striking military-industrial complex facilities, oil refineries, and other targets linked to the Russian war machine.
At the same time, Moscow continues to declare its readiness to intensify strikes against Ukraine. Kolesnik’s statement about the possible renewed use of the “Oreshnik” came against this backdrop. However, there is currently no confirmation that Russia is preparing a specific launch of this missile.
Russia has already used the “Oreshnik” against Ukraine at least three times. The first recorded strike took place on November 21, 2024. Russia claimed to have fired the missile at Dnipro. According to the SBU, the missile was launched from the Kapustin Yar test site in the Astrakhan region, and its flight time to the target was about 15 minutes.
The second strike took place on the night of January 9, 2026. Russia used the “Oreshnik” against a critical infrastructure facility in the Lviv region near Rudne. The strike occurred approximately 70 km from the border with Poland.
The “Oreshnik” was detected for the third time during a massive attack on the night of May 24, 2026. The Russian missile struck in the Bila Tserkva area in the Kyiv region. The attack damaged garages and caused a fire. The use of the “Oreshnik” was confirmed by the Ukrainian Air Force and, later, by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
This was stated by Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the Russian State Duma’s Defense Committee, according to Russian propaganda media.
As of the morning of September 10, 2026, the Russian army’s total personnel losses since the start of the full-scale invasion stand at approximately 1,502,390 soldiers. In the past 24 hours alone, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia lost another 1,520 servicemen.
The day before, 221 combat engagements were recorded on the front lines. The enemy launched the most attacks in the Pokrovsk direction, where the Defense Forces repelled 21 assaults, and Russian troops lost more than 60 occupiers.
