The Russians struck a Zhytomyr-Odesa train with a drone
Russian forces attacked the locomotive of passenger train No. 147, traveling from Zhytomyr to Odesa, with a jet drone. The train was stopped and passengers evacuated before the strike, so neither passengers nor railroad workers were injured.
The attack was reported by Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, chairman of the board of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia.” According to him, a Russian “Shahed”-type jet drone struck the locomotive of a passenger train in the Odesa region. “In the Odesa region, a Shahed drone struck the locomotive of passenger train No. 147 traveling from Zhytomyr to Odesa,” Pertsovsky said.
According to the chairman of the board of “Ukrzaliznytsia,” railway workers received advance warning of the threat. The company’s monitoring team ordered an evacuation, after which the train was immediately stopped on the tracks. “The train was immediately stopped on the tracks, so everyone is safe: the passengers, the train crew, and the locomotive crew,” Pertsovsky noted.
There were 593 passengers on the train at the time of the attack, including 15 children. No one was injured. Ukrzaliznytsia is currently arranging transportation for passengers to Odesa. The company is also working to ensure the continued transport of passengers following the attack. Thus, the strike hit the locomotive directly, but thanks to the early warning and the train’s stoppage, casualties among passengers and railroad workers were avoided. Over the past day, Russian troops struck Kharkiv and settlements in the region with missiles, guided bombs, and drones. Sixteen people were injured in the attacks, including a 15-year-old boy.
Russian troops attacked the Zaporizhzhia region 559 times over the past day. Forty settlements came under fire; three people were killed, and another 20 were wounded.
On the morning of August 23, Russian troops attacked Izyum in the Kharkiv region with three guided aerial bombs. Two people were injured in the strike, and about 20 private homes were damaged. Cars and power lines were also damaged.
