A Russian strike on a station in the Kyiv region claimed the life of a mother of two
Eight people were killed as a result of a Russian missile attack on the “Kvitneva” train station in the Brovary District of Kyiv Oblast. Among the victims was a woman who was waiting for a train and left behind two children without a mother.
The tragedy occurred on the night of August 4 during an enemy shelling of the region’s railway infrastructure. Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the circumstances of the deaths and documenting the consequences of the Russian attack.
Vita Gorkavenko was born on August 9, 1986. She lived in the village of Stepovi Khutory in the Makiyivka community of Chernihiv Oblast. She earned her certification as a pastry chef at the Nizhyn Vocational Lyceum of Household and Service.
In 2009, she gave birth to her daughter Anastasia, and four years later, to her son Oleksandr. She lived with her children and her parents—her mother Valentina and her father Mykola.
She worked at various companies both in the Nizhyn district and in Kyiv. Her last place of employment was a warehouse in Kvitneve.
On the night of August 5, 2026, during a Russian missile attack, she was at the “Kvitneva” train station—not far from the warehouse where she worked.
As a result of the attack on logistics centers, Vita Gorkavenko and seven other people who were on the station platform were killed.
In the wake of the tragedy on August 5, the Makiyivka community declared two days of mourning.
“The happiest person in the world! A source of support and strength,” recalls her friend Yulia Onopriychuk.

Over the course of the day, Russian troops attacked the Dnipropetrovsk region nearly 20 times, using drones, artillery, and guided aerial bombs. The shelling damaged civilian infrastructure, but there were no casualties.
As a result of the Russian forces’ nighttime attack on the Kyiv region on August 5, 2026, 14 people were killed, and another 27 civilians were wounded. Rescue workers continue to deal with the aftermath of the strikes and extinguish fires in several districts of the region.
Over the past 24 hours, on August 4, Russian troops attacked the Zaporizhzhia region 1,052 times, striking 50 settlements in the region. Two people were injured as a result of shelling in Zaporizhzhia and the Zaporizhzhia district.
On the night of August 5, Russian forces struck a critical infrastructure facility in Chuhuiv, Kharkiv Oblast. As a result of the attack, approximately 13,300 customers were left without electricity.
