As a result of the Russian attack in the Odesa region, a terminal operated by Kernel—which handles the transshipment of sunflower oil—was damaged. The strike destroyed approximately 25,000 metric tons of finished products.
The enemy attack caused significant damage to the facility and resulted in the loss of large volumes of sunflower oil stored at the terminal.
“On the morning of July 14, Russia attacked Kernel’s sunflower oil transshipment terminal in the Odesa region. The strike caused a massive fire that damaged half of the sunflower oil storage tanks and the terminal’s infrastructure. The fire damaged approximately 25,000 metric tons of product belonging to Kernel and an American company that stored its oil at this facility,” the statement reads.
The fire was quickly extinguished; thanks to the coordinated efforts of emergency responders, the fire was prevented from spreading to other facilities, and a spill of sunflower oil into the sea was averted. No employees were injured.
The company is addressing the aftermath of the attack and assessing the extent of the damage.
This marks the third time in four days that Russia has struck the Kernel terminal.
