The SBU has classified the Russian Federation's strike on a nuclear storage facility near the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant as a war crime

Investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine consider the Russian strike on the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility, located near the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, to be a war crime.

A criminal case has been opened regarding this incident under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigative team established that the Russian armed forces carried out this strike using a “Geran-2” type unmanned aerial vehicle at 2:05 a.m. on June 7, and individual components of the drone have already been found at the site of the strike.

The explosion damaged the spent nuclear fuel reception and reloading building and the IAEA administrative building. It has also been established that the strike did not affect the storage facility’s operational process, radiation levels are normal, and there were no fatalities or injuries. Investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine, under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, are taking comprehensive measures to find and punish those involved in this attack.

This was reported on the SBU’s official website.
