The SBU dismantled a large-scale FSB spy ring in Kyiv and Odesa
The Security Service of Ukraine has successfully exposed and dismantled a dangerous FSB spy ring that was involved in directing enemy missile strikes against the Kyiv and Odesa regions.
In the capital, law enforcement officers detained a key undercover agent whom Russian intelligence services had recruited and kept in “standby mode” for 12 years.
The suspects are in custody and have been officially charged with treason, which carries a penalty of up to life imprisonment.
The main perpetrator of the hostile operations turned out to be a professional IT specialist from Mykolaiv, whom Russian handlers had recruited for covert cooperation as far back as 2014.
After a long period of “dormancy,” the Russian intelligence service recently “activated” its agent and ordered him to move to the capital immediately.
Starting in February 2026, he prepared coordinates for a targeted missile strike by the occupiers on Kyiv, specifically on the residence of the head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

The suspect’s main task was to gather detailed intelligence on Ukrainian public figures against whom the Kremlin planned to carry out sabotage and terrorist attacks.
Well-known politicians and representatives of Ukraine’s security and defense leadership were “in the enemy’s crosshairs.”
Following clear instructions from the FSB, the agent was to track the addresses and travel routes of potential “targets” and report this information to his handler in Moscow.
To effectively carry out his intelligence tasks, the perpetrator disguised his subversive activities as legitimate professional work in the information sector.
Very often, the perpetrator operated under the guise of providing private services for the administration and maintenance of computer systems.
And then, under the guise of casual conversation, he would extract “necessary” information from new acquaintances, whom he used without their knowledge.
Later, to carry out his illegal activities, the FSB agent recruited another IT specialist—a resident of Odesa.
Working together, they created an entire network of informants who “leaked” data on the deployment of Ukrainian troops.
SBU counterintelligence officers carried out a lightning-fast operation and detained the lead agent in a rented apartment in Kyiv, simultaneously apprehending his accomplice in Odesa.
