The SBU revealed what Russians used to target the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra
The Security Service of Ukraine reported that the attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was carried out by a Geran-2 drone, which is the Russian version of the Iranian Shahed-type kamikaze drone. According to the SBU, debris from the drone was found after the attack, confirming the type of weapon used.
This conclusion was reached based on an analysis of the drone debris found at the impact site.
As the investigation revealed, the enemy attacked the monastery complex at 1:50 a.m. on June 15, 2026, during a massive shelling of the Ukrainian capital.
Following an inspection of the scene, SBU officers discovered fragments of the fuselage and engine of a Russian kamikaze drone that struck the St. Stephen’s Chapel of the Assumption Cathedral on the Lavra grounds.

An examination of the wreckage of the enemy drone revealed that some of its components were manufactured in the Russian Federation within the Alabuga Special Economic Zone.
This is evidenced by the corresponding markings found on the fragments of the Russian drone.
As a result of the enemy strike, the cathedral’s roof trusses, domes, walls, and windows were damaged. There were no fatalities or injuries.

Neighboring civilian infrastructure buildings in Kyiv’s Pecherskyi district were also damaged by the blast wave.
Investigators from the Security Service classify this strike as a war crime and have already initiated criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Comprehensive measures are being taken to establish all the circumstances of the Russian attack and bring those responsible to justice.
