SBU detains Russian agent who directed strikes on Kyiv thermal power plants

Counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have detained a woman suspected of cooperating with Russia’s FSB. According to the investigation, she adjusted air strikes on Kyiv’s energy infrastructure and collected information on the movement of the Defence Forces.

As reported by the SBU, the suspect passed photos, videos and coordinates of the capital’s thermal power plants to the enemy, which the Russian army planned to attack with missiles and drones.

The investigation established that the agent was a resident of Rivne region. She came to the attention of Russian special services while looking for work in Telegram channels. After recruitment, she was sent to Kyiv region, where she travelled to thermal power plants and recorded their technical condition after shelling.

Later, the suspect received another task: to travel to Odesa region and then to Chernihiv region to monitor the movement of echelons and columns of the Defence Forces.

To collect intelligence in Odesa region, she initially settled in a hotel room “with a view” of a local Ukrzaliznytsia railway station. From the window, the agent monitored the movement of trains carrying military equipment towards the front line.

After that, the suspect arrived in Chernihiv region and rented a flat near a highway. On the windowsill of the temporary accommodation, she installed a phone camera with remote access for the FSB.

Using the video device, the Russian special service hoped to track the number and types of military equipment heading to the front.

SBU counterintelligence officers detained the agent in Chernihiv region. Two smartphones, spare SIM cards and other evidence of cooperation with the enemy were seized from her.

Based on the collected evidence, SBU investigators notified the suspect of charges under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).

The suspect is being held in custody without the right to bail. She faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The comprehensive measures were carried out by SBU officers in the city of Kyiv and in Kyiv, Chernihiv and Odesa regions, under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
