AI saves military analysts up to 90% of their time, according to the Ministry of Defense
Artificial intelligence is already helping the Ukrainian Defense Forces to more quickly detect the positions and equipment of Russian troops and reduce the time needed to analyze intelligence data. According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, the technology can save analysts up to 90% of the time spent identifying signs of enemy presence in photos and videos.
Currently, artificial intelligence technologies automatically analyze photos and video footage, identifying potential enemy positions and military equipment.
The Ministry of Defense notes that this allows for faster processing of large amounts of information and a more rapid response to enemy threats.
AI is gradually becoming one of the key tools for Ukraine’s technological advantage on the battlefield.
At the same time, Ukraine adheres to the “human-in-the-loop” principle, meaning that human involvement in the decision-making process is mandatory.
Artificial intelligence can help identify a target and speed up its assessment, but the final decision to engage it is made by a human.
The use of artificial intelligence also helps shorten the so-called “kill chain”—the sequence of events leading to the destruction of an enemy target, which spans the process from detection to assessment of the strike’s results.
Separately, machine vision and AI technologies are being increasingly integrated into the unmanned systems of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. They assist the military with navigation, object recognition, and guiding drones to targets.
According to the Ministry of Defense, more than 200 companies in Ukraine are engaged in the production of drones using artificial intelligence.
At the same time, 46 AI-related developments are already available to the military on Brave1 Market, the state-run defense technology marketplace.
These include modules for target recognition, optical stabilization, and automatic guidance.
Ukraine plans to continue expanding the use of artificial intelligence on the front lines.
The Ministry of Defense’s strategic goal is to eventually equip 100% of the drones used on the front lines with machine vision and AI technologies.
This should allow the military to detect targets faster, use drones more effectively, and reduce the time between receiving information and responding to a threat.

As a reminder, units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces have begun testing new ground-based robotic strike systems (GRS) equipped with turrets mounted with automatic weapons under combat conditions. The new systems were developed according to the technical specifications of the Brave1 defense innovation cluster.
Previously, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense certified and authorized the “Cyclops” unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system for use by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The new domestically produced system is designed to effectively engage both ground-based and airborne enemy targets.
As a reminder, the Ministry of Defense has approved more than 1,100 new weapons models in the past six months.
The Ministry of Defense has codified and authorized the use of the new Ukrainian-made B-1 unmanned aerial vehicle system in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These ultralight bombers are designed to engage concentrations of personnel, vehicles, and armored vehicles.
