Six cats from Oleshky were evacuated across the Dnipro River by drone

Six cats were successfully evacuated from the temporarily occupied town of Oleshky in the Kherson region. The animals were transported across the Dnipro River using a heavy-lift drone, placed in a special cage. The cats traveled more than 10 kilometers and, according to the National Guard, were unharmed.

Six cats were rescued from the temporarily occupied town of Oleshky in the Kherson region. The animals were left in the city without their owners for various reasons. The evacuation was carried out by military companies of the RUBpAK Special Forces Unit “Bolgarichi” of the Special Forces Battalion of the 11th Mykhailo Hrushevsky Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. The operation was named “Tigers.” The evacuation was made possible with the help of local residents. It was they who assisted the military in organizing the rescue of the animals left behind in the occupied city.

The military prepared a special cage for the six animals. The cats were placed inside, after which they were transported across the Dnipro River using a heavy-lift drone. “Thanks to the help of local residents, we were able to evacuate six cats born under occupation in an unusual way. They were placed in a cage specially designed for this operation, after which the soldiers carried them across the Dnipro River by air beneath the wing of one of the heavy bombers,” Pivnenko wrote.

The animals flew over 10 kilometers. According to the commander of the National Guard, the cats were a little frightened during the crossing but were not injured. Thus, the military managed to remove the animals from the territory currently under Russian occupation.

What will happen to the cats next

After the evacuation, the cats are to be placed in foster care and new homes will be found for them. The National Guard noted that all six animals survived the unusual journey without injury. Now, a safe place and new owners must be found for them.

This story is yet another example of how, during the war, Ukrainian military personnel and local residents are helping to rescue not only people but also pets left behind in the occupied territories. In this case, the path to safety for the six cats led across the Dnipro River—a distance of over 10 kilometers—on a heavy-lift drone in a special cage. This was reported on September 5 by Oleksandr Pivnenko, commander of the National Guard of Ukraine.

Servicemen of the Ukrainian National Guard, in coordination with other units of the Defense Forces, carried out a second successful operation to deliver nearly four metric tons of humanitarian aid to residents of the city of Oleshky using drones.
