Benyuk's son joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine after defending his dissertation
Ukrainian actor Bohdan Benyuk has shared details for the first time about the military service of his son, Bohdan-Hordiy, who was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the actor, his son defended his dissertation on September 4 and left for Zaporizhzhia just a few days later. At the time, he was 27 years old, and his wife was pregnant.
Renowned Ukrainian actor Bohdan Benyuk has spoken in detail for the first time about his son Bohdan-Gordiy’s decision to enlist in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Actor Serhiy Kalantay had previously spoken publicly about this, but Benyuk himself had not commented on his son’s service for quite some time. Now the actor has explained how it all unfolded. According to him, Bohdan-Hordiy was pursuing a doctoral degree at the time and working on his dissertation. On September 4, he defended his dissertation, and by September 8, he was already in Zaporizhzhia. “He was pursuing a doctoral degree—a Doctor of Philosophy. He defended his dissertation on September 4, and by the 8th he was already in Zaporizhzhia,” Benyuk said in an interview with the YouTube channel Slawa.tv.
The actor noted that his son was 27 years old at the time. For Benyuk himself, it was not an easy decision, since Bohdan-Hordiy had a family. His wife was pregnant at the time. “So what am I supposed to say? He’s making a choice. His wife was pregnant, and he’s leaving. What words can you find to say to a grown man?” the actor said.
Despite his concerns, Benyuk emphasizes that he respects his son’s choice. He didn’t go into details about his son’s service, since Bohdan-Hordii himself says almost nothing about it. “But he’s gone and he’s there. May God grant that he continues to do his duty for a long time and emerges victorious,” the actor noted.
Because of his son’s service, the family doesn’t see each other often. Bohdan-Hordii comes home from time to time to see his little daughter, Yaryna. Benyuk said that he’s currently helping out with his granddaughter. According to him, the little girl looks just like her father. “I help out with my granddaughter. He comes home from time to time to see his child. She’s the spitting image of him! Yaryna is the spitting image of Bohdan,” the actor shared.
At the same time, the soldier himself doesn’t share any details about his service with his father. Benyuk says his son answers questions very briefly. “He doesn’t say anything. ‘It’s fine’—and that’s it,” the actor noted. Thus, Bohdan Benyuk has spoken publicly for the first time about how his son joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Bohdan-Hordiy left for military service almost immediately after defending his dissertation, leaving behind his pregnant wife and family. He continues to serve today, while his young daughter is growing up mostly without her father, who comes home whenever he can. Actor Serhiy Kalantay shared this news publicly.
