Sobyanin announced the largest-scale drone attack on Moscow
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that the Russian capital and the Moscow Region had suffered an unprecedented drone attack. According to him, approximately 340 attack drones were launched toward the Moscow Region on July 14.
According to the mayor, Moscow was attacked by 340 Ukrainian drones over the course of several hours, but most of them were intercepted by Russian air defense systems while still “far from the capital.” At the same time, the mayor claims that more than 50 drones were destroyed as they approached the Russian capital.
There is currently no independent confirmation of these figures, and the Ukrainian side has not officially commented on the Russian authorities’ statements regarding the number of drones that allegedly attacked the Moscow region.
It is worth noting, however, that drone attacks on Russian territory—particularly in the direction of Moscow—have become a regular occurrence recently. Specifically, on July 13, Sobyanin reported 350 drones flying toward Moscow, and a week earlier—more than 430 drones, which led to the closure of key Moscow airports.
However, despite official reports of “successful air defense operations,” damage and casualties were recorded in towns near Moscow on July 13 due to falling debris and direct hits.
According to Andriy Vorobyov, governor of the Moscow Region, three people were killed and three others were injured in the village of Pionersky near Istra when a Ukrainian drone crashed. Vorobyov also reported that five private homes caught fire following the attack in Pionersky. Two more residential buildings were damaged in the village of Babkino, located near Istra.
Meanwhile, in the city of Solnechnogorsk, according to Russian authorities, a drone struck an apartment building. As a result, two people were injured, the building’s facade was damaged, and windows were shattered. In addition, reports from Mozhaisk indicate damage to an apartment building: the strike damaged the cornice and shattered windows.
Over the past 24 hours, 244 combat engagements took place on the front lines. Ukrainian forces continue to repel the advance of Russian occupation forces, inflicting losses on the enemy in terms of personnel and equipment.
On the night of July 14, Russian troops launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine, using ballistic missiles, guided air-to-ground missiles, and attack drones. Air defense forces intercepted five ballistic missiles, two Kh-59/69 missiles, and 108 enemy drones.
Over the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s drone forces have struck or destroyed 1,559 Russian military targets, including 15 enemy vessels.
