Trump says Witkoff and Kushner are traveling for talks on Ukraine

In the United States, President Donald Trump said that special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are traveling abroad to try to reach a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, the aggressor state. This was reported by the Jerusalem Post.

US proposal

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said that the United States has an idea for peace. He also said that he had sent Witkoff and Kushner, whom he described as strong negotiators, to find out whether it is possible to achieve a result.

The US president did not disclose details of the proposal and did not specify whether the US representatives would travel to Ukraine, Russia, or both countries.

Possible itinerary

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday that Witkoff and Kushner were expected to arrive in Ukraine on Sunday after a visit to Moscow. Earlier, two Reuters sources said that the US representatives planned to visit Moscow over the weekend and then Kyiv.

According to one Reuters source, the itinerary had changed in recent days, and the Kyiv part of the trip had not yet been finally confirmed as of Friday. The report also notes that previous attempts by the Trump administration to settle Russia's war against Ukraine had not produced significant results, and negotiations had reached a dead end in recent months.

Witkoff, who is effectively the chief US negotiator on Russia's war against Ukraine, has already visited Moscow several times but has not yet been to Ukraine.
