The Joint Forces Operation Command has refuted a Russian disinformation claim regarding the use of radioactive materials in fortifications
Russian propaganda is spreading the lie that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are allegedly using radioactive materials from the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone while constructing a line of defense in the Kyiv and Sumy regions.
Such claims are pure fiction, as the propagandists provide no evidence and rely solely on the words of a single pro-Kremlin expert.
Ukraine strictly adheres to international law, nuclear safety standards, and the protection of its own military personnel, and the construction of fortifications is carried out in compliance with all technical regulations and using certified materials.
According to the Center for Public Diplomacy, the goal of such disinformation is to portray Ukraine as a party that does not take its nuclear safety obligations seriously and to divert attention from Russia’s actions, which pose a real threat. Such manipulations are part of the enemy’s disinformation campaign surrounding the events at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, in which the aggressor country attempted to falsely accuse Ukraine of striking the plant’s territory. However, it is the Russian Federation that systematically resorts to nuclear blackmail and terrorism, as evidenced in particular by the recent strike by a Russian drone on the Centralized Spent Fuel Storage Facility in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
This was reported on Telegram by the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
