The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine responded to the formation of a Belarusian airborne assault group near the border with Ukraine
Belarus announced the formation of a new airborne assault group near Gomel, approximately 40 km from the Ukrainian border. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and assessing potential risks.
State Border Guard Service spokesperson Andriy Demchenko noted that similar statements from Belarus have been made before, but this does not diminish the potential threat.
“All of this plays into the Kremlin’s hands—Belarus continues to be under the influence of Russia, a state sponsor of terrorism. And for us, the threat from Belarus as a whole is not going away. Our task is to maintain strong defensive positions,” he emphasized.
According to Demchenko, Ukrainian intelligence will monitor the pace of deployment of the new unit being formed in the Chernihiv region to assess potential risks to Ukraine in a timely manner.
By the end of the year, Belarus plans to form two battalions as part of the new group, as well as artillery and air defense units.

Belarus has begun the process of forming a new 37th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade, which will be stationed near Gomel—approximately 40 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. Alexander Ilyukevich, commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces, announced this on a Belarusian military television channel.
As a reminder, Lukashenko stated that Belarusian servicemen would not take part in the war against Ukraine.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that one should not be naive about Belarus’s role in Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to him, Minsk is under strong influence from Moscow, and most of the Belarusian government’s decisions are effectively dictated by the Kremlin.
