The Kremlin Responded to the Proposal for a Meeting Between Zelenskyy and Putin at the G20
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated his willingness to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin during the G20 summit in Miami to discuss ending the war. The Kremlin rejected this possibility, stating that such a meeting is “impossible.”
In an interview released on Saturday, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he is ready to meet with Putin at the G20 summit, scheduled for December 14–15 in Miami.
The Ukrainian president emphasized that Ukraine is currently in a stronger negotiating position, particularly due to the Russian army’s significant losses on the battlefield.
At the same time, there is currently no confirmation as to whether Vladimir Putin will attend the G20 summit itself.
The Kremlin immediately responded to Zelenskyy’s statement. Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told AFP journalists in New Delhi that such a meeting is impossible.
“That’s impossible,” Peskov said.
At the same time, he reiterated Moscow’s position regarding the venue for potential talks. The Kremlin insists that a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy can only take place in the Russian capital.
When asked whether Moscow was considering another location for the talks, Peskov replied that the willingness to meet remains.
“In Moscow,” the Kremlin spokesman clarified.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has not yet made a decision regarding his participation in the G20 summit and, accordingly, regarding a meeting with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
As a reminder, Zelenskyy effectively proposed to the Kremlin leader that they hold a face-to-face meeting specifically during the G20 summit in December 2026.
U.S. President Donald Trump has not yet decided whether to invite Russia to the G20 summit, which will take place on December 14–15, 2026, in Miami.
