Explosions were heard in Crimea near the Tavriya Thermal Power Plant and the Simferopol District Power Plant
In the temporarily occupied Crimea, explosions were reported on the night of September 30 near the Tavriya Thermal Power Plant and in the area of the Simferopol District Power Plant. According to local residents and monitoring channels, the sounds of explosions were also heard in other parts of the peninsula. There is currently no official confirmation of what exactly happened at these facilities.
In the temporarily occupied Crimea, a series of explosions was reported on the night of September 29–30. The sounds were heard in various parts of the peninsula, particularly near energy facilities. According to the Telegram channel “Crimean Wind,” a powerful explosion occurred in the Dobrovskaya Valley area, where the Tavriya Thermal Power Plant is located. Another explosion, according to the same reports, occurred in Simferopol—near the Simferopol District Power Plant.
Reports of the incidents near the Tavriya Thermal Power Plant emerged overnight amid an aerial threat over the peninsula. “Krym.Realii” also reported that local public groups had noted drones heading toward the Tavriya Thermal Power Plant. At the same time, neither the Ukrainian nor the Russian military officially commented on the reported events. In the center of Simferopol, according to local residents, a chemical smell of smoke was noticeable after the explosions. It was allegedly carried by the wind.
Explosions were also reported in the Saki District, Bakhchysarai, and Krasnoperekopsk. The exact cause of these sounds and whether they are all related remains unknown at this time. Separately, there were reports of Russian air defense activity. According to “Krym.Realii,” explosions and air defense activity were also heard in Crimea the previous night, and power outages occurred in some areas of the peninsula.
On the morning of September 30, the Russian occupation Ministry of Emergency Situations released an emergency forecast for Crimea, but it contains no information about the nighttime explosions or damage to the Tavriya Thermal Power Plant or the Simferopol District Power Plant. The document primarily addresses the weather situation and the possible consequences of strong winds and rain. The Tavriya Thermal Power Plant is located near Simferopol and is one of the major energy facilities in occupied Crimea. The plant was built after Russia’s occupation of the peninsula to increase local electricity generation.
The Simferopol District Power Plant is also a major energy facility in the region. It is located near the city and is part of Crimea’s energy infrastructure. So far, there is no confirmed information on whether these power plants were damaged. Likewise, there is no information on possible casualties or the extent of the damage. It is important to note that reports of the explosions are coming mainly from social media and local news outlets. Due to the occupation of Crimea, it is difficult to independently verify the information directly on the ground. “Krym.Realii” specifically emphasizes in its reports that such information cannot always be promptly confirmed.
At this time, only a series of explosions in various areas of the peninsula and reports of air defense activity are known. Whether energy facilities were hit, what caused the explosions, and whether there is any damage should become clear once additional information becomes available. This is reported by the Telegram channel “Krymsky Veter.”
In the temporarily occupied Crimea, emergency power outages have begun due to damage to the power grid.
