Emergency power outages introduced in Kyiv after Russian attack — Asharq Al-Awsat
The Russian Federation, an aggressor state, carried out a massive aerial attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. As a result of the strikes, Ukrenergo, Ukraine’s national energy company, introduced emergency power outages in Kyiv and three neighboring regions. As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, this is the first time such a measure has been used in the capital since spring.
Consequences of the strikes in Kyiv
According to Ukrainian authorities, the attack damaged a key power plant and other energy facilities near Kyiv. Due to the power outages, some Kyiv trams and trolleybuses stopped operating, while the municipal water supply company reported reduced pressure in the water network.
Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said that Russia had intensified its large-scale attacks on energy infrastructure. He instructed local authorities to check the readiness of backup power systems at critical facilities and accelerate their installation.
