“Some Russians remain in Kupiansk, but there aren’t many—no more than a single platoon. Why they were ‘buried’ prematurely is a big question,” Tregubov noted.
According to him, the Russian side likely wanted to remove the embarrassing topic of Kupiansk from the news cycle or planned to shell the ruins of the hospital, which is now difficult to do.
The spokesperson added that these occupiers do not pose a threat to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“Their task is to survive themselves. Food and supplies are delivered to them via an air bridge, but in the conditions of a destroyed building, it is very inconvenient to retrieve them, and Ukrainian troops are nearby,” he said.
At the same time, Tregubov clarified that the situation on the left bank of the Oskil River shows some enemy activity, but no serious offensive actions are currently being observed. The Russians have exhausted the potential of their winter campaign and are preparing for the spring one.
Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the massive onslaught of Russian aggressors, repelling 147 combat engagements across various sections of the front over the past day.
