Explosives were found in the repatriated bodies of fallen soldiers
Law enforcement officers have repeatedly discovered explosive devices during initial examinations of the bodies of servicemen repatriated to Ukraine, according to the police.
Taras Tarasenko, deputy head of the Investigative Department and head of the Division for Investigating Crimes Against Life and Health at the Main Department of the National Police in Kirovohrad Oblast, stated this in an interview with Ukrinform.
“After the bodies are returned, we conduct an initial examination. First and foremost, we check for any objects that could pose a danger. Such cases have occurred repeatedly. We have found explosive devices, grenades, and other such items, so we are proceeding with the utmost caution,” Tarasenko said.
At the same time, specialists search for personal items that help identify the individual: documents, cell phones, ID badges, and bank cards. After that, a thorough examination begins. Investigators record and photograph distinctive features, tattoos, clothing, and other details.
The police also noted that it is not uncommon for the remains of several people to be mixed together. This is determined both during visual examination and based on the results of DNA analysis. In such situations, law enforcement officers, together with forensic medical experts, segment and separate the remains for further examination, according to Ukrinform.
