Air defense systems were active in Sochi overnight, and explosions were heard
On the night of September 14, Sochi in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai was attacked by drones. Russian air defense systems were active in the city, explosions were heard, and a fire was reported following the attack. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that a Russian radar station had been destroyed.
On the night of September 14, residents of Sochi reported a series of explosions during the drone attack. Russian air defense systems could be heard operating in the city, and local residents began posting videos showing the aftermath of the nighttime attack. Footage from Sochi quickly appeared online. It shows flashes in the sky and the sound of explosions. According to eyewitnesses, Russian air defense systems attempted to shoot down the drones.
Monitoring channels reported possible strikes near the port and an oil depot. According to preliminary data, a fire broke out there afterward. However, these reports require separate confirmation. The exact location of the possible strikes and the extent of the damage have not yet been determined. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine provided a separate update on the consequences of the attack. Ukrainian military officials stated that a Russian radar station had been destroyed.
The General Staff noted that Ukrainian forces continue to strike targets that Russia uses to wage war against Ukraine. Radar stations are part of the airspace detection and control system. Meanwhile, local residents actively filmed the Russian air defense system in action. In the videos that were released, several loud explosions can be heard, and flashes are visible in some areas.
The attack took place at night while the city was asleep. Due to the explosions and the air defense activity, many residents woke up and began monitoring the situation. On September 10, in Kyiv’s Sviatoshynskyi district, a drone crashed in an open area in the woods near a shopping center. According to preliminary reports, there was no fire and no casualties.
In the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv, an enemy drone struck the roof of a four-story business center. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene to investigate the circumstances and address the aftermath of the incident.
