A Russian attack in Sofiivka claimed the lives of two people
In Sofiivka, part of the Kramatorsk community in Donetsk Oblast, a Russian strike claimed the lives of two people. Two others were injured, and 141 private homes were damaged by the explosions.
Rescue workers were on the scene following the attack. During the emergency rescue operations, they recovered a body from under the rubble of a private home. Emergency responders cleared away approximately two metric tons of building debris. Search and rescue operations have now been completed. As a result of the Russian shelling in Sofiivka, three fires broke out. Firefighters extinguished a fire in a farm building.
Rescue workers also contained a fire in a private home and two civilian vehicles. The fire also damaged structural elements of one of the houses. However, it was impossible to fully extinguish all the fires due to the threat of renewed Russian shelling. Rescue workers had to suspend operations for safety reasons.
In total, two people were killed and two others were injured as a result of the attack in Sofiivka. The Russian strike also caused significant damage to residential buildings—141 private homes were affected. This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
Kyiv remains one of Russia’s main targets, so new strikes on the capital’s energy infrastructure are entirely possible. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian authorities understand how Russia might attempt to target Kyiv’s energy sector and are working to strengthen resilience.
Ukrainian defense forces have almost completely liberated the Dnipropetrovsk region from Russian troops. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, about 10 square kilometers remain under Russian control—three small villages where, as the president claims, there are effectively no Russian troops left.
Ukraine continues negotiations with the U.S. regarding the possibility of using Starlink on Russian territory for Ukrainian defense purposes. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the issue remains on the table, although SpaceX had previously refused to allow such use due to the risk of escalation.
