Ukraine has requested a meeting of the UN Security Council in response to the attacks on ships
Ukraine has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on July 27. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga announced this on social media platform X following his statement regarding attacks by Russia—the aggressor state—on civilian vessels in the Black Sea.
According to Sibiga, Russia has fired upon at least three civilian ships in recent days. Dozens of crew members were killed or injured as a result of these attacks.
The minister also stated that on the day of his announcement, not a single vessel had passed through the Ukrainian maritime corridor in the Black Sea, despite the harvest season being in full swing. “This is deliberate economic and humanitarian terror,” he wrote.
Sybiga compared Russia’s actions to Iran’s attacks on energy routes in the Strait of Hormuz and stated that Russia is deliberately targeting global food markets. According to him, if such attacks continue, millions of families in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America could face rising prices and hunger.
