Ukraine Is Already Winning World War III for the West — The Hill
Through its resistance to Russian aggression, Ukraine is already shaping the outcome of the global confrontation between the democratic world and authoritarian regimes.
This view was expressed by American national security experts Mark Tot and Jonathan Sweet in a column for The Hill.
In their view, Russia’s full-scale invasion marked the beginning of a broader global conflict in which Moscow, Beijing, Tehran, and Pyongyang are acting as allies. At the same time, Western countries have long viewed the war solely as a regional conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
The authors emphasize that it was Ukraine that recognized the scale of the threat from the very beginning. They also recalled President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statement that Putin had already started World War III, and that halting Russian aggression in Ukraine would be a victory for the entire world.
According to analysts, the successes of the Ukrainian Defense Forces are already influencing the global security landscape. In particular, Russia is being forced to scale back its presence in the Middle East and Africa, while China is more carefully assessing possible scenarios regarding Taiwan, taking into account Ukraine’s experience with modern warfare.
At the same time, the authors note that the West’s ultimate victory depends on whether Washington and Brussels recognize the scale of the current global confrontation and seize the opportunity created by Ukraine.
