Ukraine is strengthening its defenses along the border with Transnistria (photo)
In the southwestern sector, defensive positions are being reinforced due to potential threats from unrecognized Transnistria, linked to the presence of Russian troops there.
This was reported to RBC-Ukraine by the “West” Operational Command.
They stated that engineering fortifications are being reinforced in the Transnistrian sector, and bypass roads are being developed to improve troop maneuverability and logistics.
The Operational Command noted that the commander of the “West” military group, Brigadier General Volodymyr Shvedyuk, during a working trip to the border with unrecognized Transnistria, spoke with commanders at various levels, checked the readiness of units, their supplies, and the condition of the defensive lines—engineering fortifications and bypass roads.
The Operational Command notes that it plans to establish a layered defense system in this area, which will allow for a rapid response to potential provocations or threats from the Transnistrian region.

“One of the main issues remains the substantial strengthening of the defensive capabilities of our southwestern border. Creating the necessary conditions to improve the maneuverability and logistical support of the troops. This will allow us to build a layered defense system that will enable a rapid response to any provocations or overt acts of aggression from the self-proclaimed, unrecognized satellite of the Russian Federation,” the Western Operational Command stated.
They clarified that military personnel in this sector are actively interacting with local communities and farms. They ensure that farmers can safely carry out seasonal fieldwork, taking into account the construction of engineering barriers, minefields, and defense lines by our troops along the border.
Defense Forces units are also supporting efforts to improve the system for training the local population in national resistance.

The commander of the “West” military group also met with representatives of the region’s medical institutions to verify the readiness of the region’s medical infrastructure to assist the military if necessary.
“Strengthening the border defense lines is, first and foremost, a comprehensive response to potential risks and the ability to react quickly to any threat,” the “West” Operational Command noted.
And although the scenarios for how events might unfold here may vary—the experience of repelling Russian armed aggression in the northern and eastern sectors of our country shows that we must be prepared for all possible scenarios and respond to them adequately and effectively, the command concluded.
In Kyiv, only minor provocations at the border are expected from Belarus.
As a reminder, two Belarusian military helicopters were spotted near the Ukrainian border. They were observed near the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed rather unusual activity along the Ukraine-Belarus border—on the Belarusian side. Our side is closely monitoring what is happening at our border.
