Ukrainian Air Defense Forces Shoot Down More Than 80% of Russian "Banderole" Drones, Says Kovalenko
Ukrainian air defense forces are shooting down more than 80% of Russian S8000 “Banderole” missile drones. Moreover, their interception rate will continue to rise.
“The interception rate for Banderole drones is over 80% and will continue to rise,” Kovalenko wrote.
The head of the Central Command also published an infographic showing the trend in air raid alerts in Kyiv over the past six days.
It shows that the total duration of air raid alerts in the capital is gradually decreasing.
Specifically, from August 27 to 28, 14 air raid alerts were issued in Kyiv, lasting a total of 13 hours and 3 minutes.
In contrast, on the night of September 1–2, 10 air raid alerts were recorded, with a total duration of 5 hours and 21 minutes.
The “Banderole” is one of the types of jet-powered drones that Russia is using during its massive attacks on Ukraine.
According to the Air Force, on the night of September 2, Russia deployed 174 attack UAVs, including Shahed, S8000 “Banderol,” “Gerbera,” and “Parodia” decoy drones.
As the number of such targets increases, improving the effectiveness of their interception is becoming a critical factor in protecting Ukrainian cities.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, reported this on the morning of September 2.
On the morning of September 2, Russian troops continued their attack on Ukraine with strike drones. Explosions were heard in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, where air defense forces are operating.
On the night of September 1–2, Russia launched a massive strike against Ukraine using missiles and more than 170 drones. Air defense forces repelled the attack, during which the enemy used, among other things, “Iskander” and “Banderol” missiles.
Russian troops attacked one of the industrial facilities in the Poltava district. Rescue workers were on the scene following the enemy strike.
Over the past day, Russian troops attacked 54 settlements in the Kherson region, using strike drones, aircraft, and artillery.
In the town of Vyshneve in the Bucha District of the Kyiv region, a fire broke out in two townhouses as a result of an attack by a Russian strike drone. Structural damage was also reported.
Over the past day, Russian troops attacked settlements in the Sumy region 62 times. One person was killed and eight others were wounded as a result of the enemy strikes.
Rescue workers extinguished fires in three warehouses that broke out following a Russian attack on the Kyiv region. Firefighters put out the fires at all three locations.
In Kyiv and several regions, an air raid alert was declared on the evening of September 1 at 6:24 p.m. due to the threat of Russian UAVs. The Ukrainian Air Force urged citizens to immediately seek shelter or follow the “two-wall rule” if safe premises were not accessible.
Ukraine is conducting combat tests of at least four jet interceptors designed to counter Russian jet drones.
