India is investigating the deaths of citizens caught up in the war in Ukraine
A court case is underway in India involving citizens who, according to their families, may have been deceived or coerced into participating in Russia’s war against Ukraine. The government has confirmed the deaths of ten Indians who served in the Russian armed forces. The families insist that their loved ones were effectively drawn into combat under the guise of working abroad. This is reported by India Today.
India’s central government has officially informed the country’s Supreme Court that at least ten Indian citizens died while participating in Russia’s war against Ukraine as part of the Russian army. This is stated in the case materials cited by India Today.
During the hearings, government representative Aishwarya Bhat noted that a total of 26 people appear on the list and confirmed the deaths of ten of them. At the same time, according to government officials, India’s diplomatic services are in contact with the families and are attempting to resolve the situation through multilateral channels.
The government also stated that some citizens may have been lured into Russian military structures through deception, but the majority, according to the official version, signed contracts voluntarily. The families of the deceased and those considered missing have filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court. They claim that their relatives were misled while seeking work abroad and were effectively forced to end up on the front lines.
The plaintiffs’ attorney emphasized that, in the families’ view, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs failed to maintain proper communication despite dozens of requests. The government rejects these allegations and asserts that communication with the families is ongoing, while the repatriation of the deceased’s remains is complicated by logistical and bureaucratic issues.
The presiding judge in the case noted that the situation requires a balanced approach, as it concerns both international relations and the safety of citizens. The case is ongoing.
Across all fronts in the immediate combat zone, a widespread shift by the enemy from expensive strike drones to budget alternatives like the Molniya has been observed.
In border regions of the Russian Federation, infrastructure is being expanded to launch new-generation jet drones, which are planned to be used for strikes against Ukraine.
