Ammonium nitrate production in Russia has declined following strikes on chemical plants

Russia has seen a significant decline in ammonium nitrate production following a series of attacks on chemical industry facilities, which has impacted the operations of key fertilizer producers.

According to the Federal State Statistics Service, in January–May 2026, ammonium nitrate production in Russia fell by 9% year-over-year to 4.7 million metric tons

In May alone, the decline was 14%, with production volume at approximately 786,100 metric tons.

Ammonium nitrate is an important nitrogen fertilizer in agriculture and a raw material for the production of explosives.

The main producers in Russia are Acron, EuroChem, UralChem, and the Azot Group, which account for about 80% of production and up to 90% of exports of this product.

According to analysts, one of the reasons for the decline in volumes was unscheduled maintenance at plants, which limited production capacity. At the same time, reports also mention the consequences of strikes on chemical industry facilities, which affected production stability.

The situation in the sector remains unstable amid disruptions in the operation of some production facilities.

This is reported by Russian media, citing data from Rosstat.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed successful strikes by Ukrainian defenders on major Russian energy infrastructure facilities

The sharp intensification of Ukrainian strikes deep into the territory of the Russian Federation has led to a fuel crisis, a sharp drop in the stock market, and growing panic among the Russian elite.
