Ukraine introduces scheduled power outages from 5 p.m.

Ukraine introduces scheduled power outages from 5 p.m.

Due to systematic shelling of energy infrastructure, the situation in Ukraine’s power system remains tense. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

Power grids in Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv and Chernihiv oblasts suffered the heaviest damage, leaving some consumers temporarily without electricity.

To stabilise the system, today, 16 March, scheduled hourly power outages will be introduced in all regions of Ukraine from 5p.m. to 10 p.m.

In addition to household consumers, power restrictions will also affect businesses and industrial enterprises, which will help avoid critical overloads during peak hours.

The Ministry of Energy has urged citizens to reduce the use of energy-intensive appliances as much as possible during periods of highest demand — in the morning and in the evening.

“We ask consumers, where possible, to use electricity sparingly during peak consumption hours in the morning and evening. This helps reduce the load on the system,” the ministry said.

Energy workers are currently operating in an intensified round-the-clock mode to quickly eliminate the consequences of enemy attacks and restore electricity supply to all consumers.

The Ministry of Energy said that everything possible is being done to return the system to normal operation as soon as possible, although the speed of recovery often depends on the security situation on the ground.

Earlier it was reported that power outage schedules would be introduced across all regions of Ukraine on 16 March.
