Video: Drones attacked Crimea and left several cities without power

On the night of July 5–6, the temporarily occupied Crimea came under a large-scale drone attack. According to reports, the strikes targeted a thermal power plant and a military airfield, and power outages were reported in Sevastopol, Yalta, Bakhchisaray, and a number of other settlements.

Mykhailo Razvozhayev, head of the occupation administration in Sevastopol, said that due to the attack on energy infrastructure outside Sevastopol, the city was temporarily left without power. According to him, special measures have been implemented at the facilities, social services have switched to backup power systems, and specialists are “doing everything possible” to restore power.

According to a monitoring channel, most of Sevastopol was left without power, and the lights were also flickering in Kerch.

According to local social media posts, the power went out completely in Yalta, in Bakhchysarai starting at 12:45 a.m., and in parts of the Simferopol district. Almost all of Simferopol was temporarily without power; in Feodosia, the lights were flickering; and in Dzhankoy and the surrounding area, power surges were recorded. Monitoring sources report that Crimea’s power grid is out of balance.

At 00:43, at least two strikes were recorded at the Gvardeyskoye garrison airfield—this was preceded by gunfire and a series of 5–7 powerful explosions. At the time of publication, monitors had recorded the last loud explosion at 01:14.

In addition, there are reports of explosions in the Bilohirsk area, gunfire near the Tavricheskaya Thermal Power Plant in Strogonivka, and repeated drone flyovers toward the same plant—according to some reports, the drones failed to hit their targets. Locals report smoke in the area around the plant and a characteristic smell of burnt wiring, similar to what was detected during the previous attack.

Drones were also spotted heading toward the Simferopol Thermal Power Plant and the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant, where gunfire could be heard. In the early morning, explosions and gunfire resumed repeatedly—particularly in the Mazanka area, above Simferopol, and in Kerch, where the explosions lasted more than 20 minutes.

According to NASA Firms, a resource that tracks fire signatures in satellite imagery, hotspots were detected at several locations across the peninsula. Specifically, in Simferopol—near the 330 kV “Simferopolskaya” substation, one of Crimea’s main transmission substations, through which a significant portion of the electricity flows from the central and eastern parts of the peninsula (since 2015, it has been integrated into a system operating via the Russian “energy bridge” and intra-Crimean power lines). Fires were also reported in Kerch—near the port—and in Simferopol—near the airport.
