The production of Russian drones and missiles is heavily dependent on foreign components, — Zelenskyy

Russia continues to use foreign components to manufacture attack drones and missiles, including “Shaheds.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on international partners to cut off Moscow’s access to such components and to intensify sanctions pressure.

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia launched more than 100 attack drones at Ukraine last night, nearly half of which were jet-powered. The Ukrainian military neutralized most of the drones, though some hits were recorded.

“No matter how hard Moscow tries to completely localize the production of its drones and missiles, their escalation remains critically dependent on foreign components,” the president emphasized.

The head of state noted that supply chains for components used in Russian weapons production run through Europe, the United States, China, Japan, and other countries.

According to the president, these are primarily products from well-known manufacturers, some of whose components continue to reach Russia despite sanctions and established restrictions.

“Every Russian drone can actually be stopped right on the production line. What is needed is the political will of these countries,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated.

The president called for increasing sanctions pressure on Russia if Moscow continues to escalate its attacks.

“If the Kremlin has chosen to launch more strikes, sanctions must be enforced and intensified,” Zelenskyy said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also described the consequences of the overnight Russian attack. According to him, “Shahed” drones struck the South Bridge in Kyiv several times. In the morning, a Russian strike hit a residential high-rise, killing one person.

In addition, Russian troops attacked a kindergarten in Kherson and a grocery store in Kharkiv. An institute and critical infrastructure facilities were also damaged.

In Kramatorsk and Sumy, strikes on high-rise buildings were reported.

The Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Poltava, and Rivne regions also came under Russian fire.

As of the time of the president’s address, four people were known to have been wounded as a result of the nighttime attack.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that relevant services are working at the sites of the strikes. At the same time, he called on international partners not only to strengthen sanctions against Russia but also to cut off supply channels for components necessary for the production of Russian weapons.

The president had previously stated that Russian drone and missile production depends on foreign components, and that sanctions pressure, in his words, should be directed, in particular, at the illicit schemes used to supply them to Russia.

This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

As of August 2026, experts from the Main Intelligence Directorate had identified 5,816 foreign components in 202 models of Russian weapons.

An analysis of the Russian “Oreshnik” ballistic missile revealed that all components identified in it were manufactured by companies in Russia and Belarus.
