Kharkiv authorities are developing a way to protect gas stations from Russian drones
Russia has recently intensified its attacks on Ukrainian gas stations in an attempt to create fuel shortages in regions near the front lines. Meanwhile, officials in Kharkiv have stated that they already have a solution in place to protect gas stations from enemy attacks.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said that the new method is currently being tested, but he has not yet disclosed any details.
Kharkiv has a solution that could help protect gas stations from Russian attacks. Mayor Ihor Terekhov made this statement during an interview on Radio Svoboda. According to him, testing of the solution has already begun, and it shows promise. “There is a specific solution that is currently being tested. And I believe it has a chance of success,” Terekhov said.
At the same time, the mayor of Kharkiv did not specify exactly what kind of protection he was referring to. Terekhov noted that Russia’s attacks on gas stations are not solely for military purposes. In his view, the enemy is attempting to influence civilians and cause panic. “In reality, that’s not the case. You can see for yourselves that there is no panic in Kharkiv, no fuel shortage. On the contrary, there is unity, focus, and fighting spirit,” the mayor emphasized.
He explained that Russia is also trying to disrupt the supply system for frontline cities. A fuel shortage could cause problems for ambulances, fire departments, public transportation, and other essential services. According to Terekhov, the enemy aims to disrupt people’s normal lives and create additional hardships for regions closer to the front lines.
The mayor called on Ukrainians to remain united and help quickly restore facilities damaged by Russian attacks. “We need to come together and do everything we can to prevent the enemy from paralyzing our lives,” Terekhov said. Earlier reports indicated that Russian troops regularly attack Ukraine’s fuel infrastructure, particularly gas stations, in an attempt to disrupt logistics and the operations of civilian services. On the afternoon of July 27, Russian troops struck a gas station in Kharkiv. At least two civilians were injured in the attack. Emergency services are on the scene, and the full extent of the damage is being assessed.
