The Ukrainian Navy has confirmed that a Russian ship was struck in the Kerch Strait. According to the Ukrainian military, the vessel was on a mission to secure the area around the Crimean Bridge, said Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk.
“This is a third-class ship, a fairly substantial vessel. The Russian FSB’s Coast Guard was using it. And, of course, their mission in this situation is specifically to guard the waters around the so-called Crimean Bridge. This water area has long been within our focus; we have also destroyed boats there because the Kerch Strait is, in fact, closed by Ukraine. Russian border guards are there illegally. So yes, the ship is important for the Russians to carry out their tasks, just like any other vessel, but it’s more than just ordinary boats. And if they lose it, of course, they will be forced to look for other means of patrolling,” Pletenchuk said.
According to the spokesperson, Russia cannot leave the Crimean Bridge unguarded due to Ukraine’s previous successful attacks.
“They cannot afford to leave the bridge alone with us; we have already seen precedents,” Pletenchuk noted.
He added in a comment to “Mi-Ukraine” that patrolling involves constant monitoring of the surface situation and the detection of potential threats.
In the Zhytomyr region, infrastructure facilities and private homes were damaged as a result of another attack by Russian drones. Enemy drones struck the region, causing destruction to civilian facilities. Relevant services are on the ground, documenting the consequences of the attack and repairing the damage. Information regarding the extent of the destruction and possible casualties is being clarified.
In the Odesa region, a critical infrastructure facility was damaged by a drone attack.
In the Kyiv region, efforts are underway to extinguish a large-scale fire at an industrial facility caused by a nighttime attack by Russian drones. Units of the State Emergency Service are involved in the firefighting, and cleanup operations are ongoing.
On the night of June 4, Russian forces carried out a massive air attack using a ballistic missile and 293 drones of various types. Ukraine’s air defense forces destroyed or intercepted 264 aerial targets.
