Drones attacked the Leningrad Region of the Russian Federation and Bryansk overnight
On the night of August 29–30, drones attacked the Leningrad Oblast and Bryansk in Russia. In the city of Kirishi, the strikes sparked a fire in an industrial zone where a large oil refinery is located.
Overnight, residents of the Leningrad region posted videos showing Russian air defense systems in action. The footage also shows a massive fire in Kirishi. The blaze likely broke out at the “Kirishinefteorgsintez” oil refinery. Russian authorities have not officially specified which facility was damaged.
In the morning, Leningrad Oblast Governor Alexander Drozdenco stated that a fire broke out in the Kirishi industrial zone following an attack by Ukrainian drones. According to him, the fire was caused by drone strikes. Russian authorities have not reported any casualties.
ASTRA’s OSINT analysts determined that the building damaged during the attack is located in Kirishi, Leningrad Oblast. Kirishi is of great importance to the Russian oil industry. Kirishnefteorgsintez, one of Russia’s largest oil refineries, operates there.
Explosion in Bryansk
Another attack took place overnight in Bryansk. An explosion was heard during a drone strike in the Bezhitsky district of the city. According to ASTRA, it occurred near residential buildings. Russian authorities have not officially specified the causes or possible damage. At the same time, facilities critical to Russia’s military-industrial complex are located near the site of the explosion. The Bryansk Electromechanical Plant and the Bryansk Automobile Plant are situated approximately 4–5 kilometers away.
The Bryansk Electromechanical Plant manufactures electronics for the Russian military. In particular, the plant is associated with the production of electronic warfare and electronic reconnaissance systems. Among the plant’s well-known products are the “Krasukha” systems, designed for the electronic suppression of radars and communications equipment.
The plant also manufactures radio monitoring and electronic intelligence stations, ground-based electronic warfare systems, satellite data reception and processing systems, and individual components for airborne radar systems. Another important facility nearby is the Bryansk Automobile Plant. It is part of the Russian aerospace defense conglomerate “Almaz-Antey.”
Thus, on the night of August 29–30, drones attacked two regions of Russia simultaneously. In Kirishi, a large-scale fire broke out in the industrial zone following the attack, while in Bryansk, an explosion was reported near facilities that supply the Russian military-industrial complex. There are currently no official reports on the extent of the damage or casualties. The attack was reported by the Russian publication ASTRA and local officials.
Starting in the evening of August 29, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 130 strike drones and two ballistic missiles. Air defense forces destroyed or intercepted 125 drones, but strikes were recorded at 13 locations.
Over the past 24 hours, 221 clashes took place on the front lines between Ukrainian defenders and Russian forces. The Russians carried out the most attacks in the Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk directions—31 and 30, respectively.
