Ukrainian drones struck air defense systems at two Russian airfields
On the night of August 30, the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces struck several key Russian military targets at the “Yeysk” and “Millerovo” airfields. Among the targets were “Pantsir-S1” systems, several radar stations, and warehouses containing aviation weapons and ammunition.
Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces, reported on the results of the operation. According to him, Ukrainian forces attacked Russian military targets in several areas overnight. As a result, air defense elements, radar systems, and depots were struck.
One of the main targets was the Millerovo airfield in the Rostov region. There, Ukrainian drones struck the DRL-27 module of the RSP-27 aircraft landing radar system. Nebo-SV radar stations and other facilities on the airfield’s territory were also struck. In addition, in the Dolotinka area, where the Millerovo airfield is located, ammunition depots and a technical maintenance unit were destroyed.
According to Brovdi, the DRL-27 was the primary target of last night’s operation. This radar is used to detect air targets and control air traffic at the airfield. It operates in conjunction with the PRL-27 landing radar and is part of the system that assists in guiding aircraft during landing. “The destroyed DRL-27 is an airfield control radar that, in addition to detecting air targets, serves as an integral component of air traffic control,” explained the SBS commander.
Another target of the strike was the Krasnodar Krai. At the “Yeisk” military airfield, Ukrainian forces struck the “Pantsir-S1” anti-aircraft missile and gun system, the “Sopka-2” radar station, and an aviation weapons depot. Separately, the Defense Forces struck a Russian “Kasta 2E2” radar station in the Shabelsky district of the Krasnodar Krai.
Thus, in a single operation, the Ukrainian military disabled several elements of the Russian air defense and radar surveillance system at once. These included the “Pantsir-S1” air defense missile system and at least several radar systems, as well as depots where Russian forces stored aviation weapons and ammunition.
According to Robert Brovdi, the results of the strikes were confirmed by follow-up reconnaissance. “The destruction of the aforementioned enemy air defense elements has been confirmed by follow-up reconnaissance,” noted the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces. The Defense Forces regularly emphasize that strikes on Russian military facilities are intended to weaken the capabilities of the Russian Federation’s army, particularly its aviation and air defense systems. This time, several facilities related to the operation of Russian military airfields were targeted. These included radars, air defense systems, and weapons depots.
