The court concluded the trial of two Russian soldiers who, during the occupation of part of the Mykolaiv region, unlawfully detained and brutally tortured a civilian. Based on evidence gathered by police investigators, the occupiers were found guilty and sentenced to 11 and 12 years in prison.
The investigation established that in the Bashtanka District, Russian military personnel held a civilian in inhumane conditions, handcuffed him, and subjected him to torture. The court upheld the charges and handed down a guilty verdict.
During the investigation, law enforcement officials established that the perpetrators, while serving in the Russian armed forces in the villages they occupied within the Snigurivka urban community of the Bashtanka district, unlawfully detained, detained, and tortured a resident of the village of Yevhenivka. Under the fabricated pretext that the victim had allegedly beaten a neighbor, the occupiers subjected the man to so-called “punishment.” They handcuffed him to a metal pole, held him for 24 hours without food or water, and during that time struck him on the torso with a stick and tightened the handcuffs even further.
