Near Pavlohrad in the Dnipropetrovsk region, 21-year-old Marine Yevgen Minzhenor was killed. After reaching the age of majority, he had returned to Ukraine from Turkey to defend his country. The soldier lost a leg during the war but returned to active duty after his recovery.

Yevhen Minzhenner was born in the Kherson region and moved to Turkey while still in school. He was 17 years old when the full-scale invasion began. When Yevhen saw photos from Bucha and learned of the capture of Mariupol’s defenders, he decided to return to his homeland and join the military.

“When I turned eighteen—I took the first flight and was already in Ukraine,” Yevhen recalled.

Two months later, in March 2023, he joined the 2nd Marine Battalion of the 38th Separate Marine Brigade named after Hetman Petro Sahaidachny. Yevhen became a drone operator and chose the call sign “Andatra.”

On April 10, 2025, he was wounded when an enemy drone struck the vehicle on his side.

“I looked up from my tablet and immediately saw a flash of fire. My first instinct was to look at my guys, and only then did I realize: something was wrong with me. I mean, my leg was gone… the realization hit me almost immediately,” Yevhen said.

The soldier underwent rehabilitation at UNBROKEN. After his first prosthesis was fitted, Yevhen had to undergo a reamputation, so he had to start his recovery all over again.

During his rehabilitation, the soldier became passionate about rock climbing.

“For me, it’s a way to adapt to the prosthesis. It’s satisfying when, over time, you improve your climbing skills and can tackle bigger routes and trails each time. As a hobby, a routine, and rehabilitation—it’s awesome,” Yevhen shared.

After rehabilitation, he returned to the military. He said that was where he felt most at home.

Yevhen Minzhenor, 21, was killed near Pavlohrad. His death was confirmed on August 18.

“So you never made it to see me with your prosthetic leg, my friend. Before that, we’d met several times at my hospital in Kyiv. You energized everyone with your wild energy. You set an example and were like Spider-Man on your prosthetic leg.

But you wouldn’t have been able to just sit around anyway. You were strong, and you always will be, buddy,” wrote soldier Yaroslav Grubych, Yevhen’s friend.

“He was such a funny guy. Everyone who ever met him loved him. Everyone who followed him loved him. And he loved the sun,” wrote Nadiya Lypchuk about the soldier.

“Zhenya loved life. Truly. He was incredibly energetic, always on the move, with character, strength, and that special zest for life that was impossible to miss,” noted Levitate Ukraine, a prosthetics manufacturer for which Yevhen served as an ambassador.
