Zelenskyy stated that Russia is preparing for an escalation involving equipment from North Korea
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Russian Federation, as an aggressor state, is preparing to escalate the war against Ukraine. According to him, Moscow is ramping up production of ballistic missiles, acquiring North Korean military equipment, and preparing for mobilization. Zelenskyy called on partners to intensify sanctions pressure on Russia and provide Ukraine with more air defense capabilities.
The president posted this on social media platform X following the strike on Zaporizhzhia on the evening of August 10. According to Zelenskyy, the city was attacked with North Korean ballistic missiles. He called the attack brutal, reported six dead and 19 wounded, and noted that rescue operations were ongoing at the site.
There were also reports overnight of separate Russian attacks on Kyiv and the Dnipropetrovsk region, which killed at least three people. CNBC notes that Russian forces have increased the number of missile strikes on Ukrainian cities in recent weeks, presumably seeking to exploit Ukraine’s lack of ballistic missile interceptors.

According to CNBC, Ukraine relies heavily on U.S.-made Patriot PAC-3 systems to intercept Russian ballistic missiles. Zelenskyy has repeatedly called on international partners to speed up the delivery of interceptor missiles, stating that they could have saved the lives of those who died in Kyiv on August 5.
At the same time, Ukrainian forces continue to launch long-range drone strikes against targets deep inside Russian territory. Among the targets mentioned by CNBC is the Russian e-commerce platform Wildberries.
