Zelenskyy called for an end to the war before AI begins making decisions on the front lines
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia’s war against Ukraine must be ended before artificial intelligence begins to independently influence decision-making on the battlefield.
According to the president, as early as next year, there is a possibility that decisions during combat operations will be made not only by humans but also by artificial intelligence. Therefore, in Zelenskyy’s view, peace must be achieved before technology reaches that stage of development.
“As early as next year, there is a real possibility that decisions on the battlefield will begin to be made by artificial intelligence, not just by humans. We need peace before we reach that point,” Zelenskyy said.
According to the president, the world must take into account the rapid development of military technologies and weapons systems. He emphasized the need to act before technology reaches this new stage of development.
Zelenskyy also called for slowing the development of technologies and weapons designed to kill people before artificial intelligence gains even greater capabilities on the battlefield.
Zelenskyy had previously stated that drones and artificial intelligence are already changing the nature of modern warfare. In March 2026, during a speech before the British Parliament, he noted that the situation on the battlefield is already largely determined by drones and AI.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement during his address to the UN General Assembly on September 23.
At the UN, Zelenskyy called Putin “patient zero,” from whom the contagion is spreading throughout the world.
Zelenskyy stated that normal life for Ukrainians is impossible without the de-occupation of Crimea.
