Ukraine and Germany sign $1.5 billion defense agreement — Dawn
Ukraine and Germany have concluded a $1.5 billion arms agreement aimed at countering intensified attacks by Russian drones. The arrangement provides for the supply of combat drones, support for Ukraine’s air defense, and assistance to the energy sector.
As Dawn reports, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia is attacking Ukraine’s energy sector in an attempt to deprive the population of heat and electricity during the winter period.
Joint production of interceptors
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said during a joint press conference with Zelenskyy in Kyiv that the agreement also provides for the joint production of drones to counter high-speed jet drones. According to him, substantial technical results have been achieved in this area in recent weeks, and production is now being scaled up.
Merz also announced the supply of long-range strike capabilities, combat drones, and satellite technologies, which, he said, will enable Ukraine to strike Russian launch sites. During the visit, he saw damage to the National Academy of Sciences, which, according to the report, was hit by a Russian drone; two people were killed in the attack.

Attack on the Pivnichnyi Bridge
On the same day, Russia struck the Pivnichnyi Bridge over the Dnipro River in Kyiv. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the attack damaged the road and the hot water supply system in the district.
Russia’s Defense Ministry, of the aggressor state, confirmed the strike on the bridge and said that two dry cargo ships carrying military equipment to the port of Odesa had been hit.
Separately, Zelenskyy said that the United States proposes holding a trilateral technical-level meeting involving Ukraine and Russia by the end of October. The United Arab Emirates could act as mediators, and Ukraine is also ready to consider another country proposed by the American side.
