Russia has equipped the Geran-4 rocket with a new optical navigation system

This fall, Russia began deploying upgraded “Geran-4” drones equipped with new optical navigation systems and engines. According to the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), the drones were also fitted with a new warhead designed to destroy bridges and power lines.

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense published details about the new version of the Russian “Geran-4” jet drones on the War&Sanctions portal. According to intelligence reports, the enemy began using it this fall.

The updated “Geran-4” features a new “MOH” unit. It is based on a high-precision magneto-inductive sensor (magnetometer) PNI5GA manufactured by the American company PNI Sensor.

The unit works in conjunction with the SADRA inertial navigation module. It reduces the drift of its gyroscopes and improves the accuracy of the drone’s autonomous navigation.

In addition to satellite and inertial navigation, the Russians have added another autonomous system—"Susannin." This is an optoelectronic correlation system. It compares images from the optical sensor with a reference image stored in the computer’s memory.

This allows the drone to stay on course from the launch point to the target. The same system is used on the new “Geran-5” K5-version drones.

To effectively destroy bridge structures and overhead power line towers, the enemy has begun using a new warhead for the KRSN. This is a special cumulative-cutting warhead that severs the target with a cumulative jet.

The Chinese Telefly turbojet engine has been replaced with a Russian-made equivalent manufactured locally in Alabuga.

The rest of the electronic units and components remain unchanged, as in previous “Geran” models.

As a reminder, 12 AI-equipped turrets were installed in Kyiv to counter jet-powered Shahed drones.

Prior to this, Flash reported that Russia was using hidden repeaters to attack bridges in Kyiv.

On the morning of October 3, Russian troops struck the Northern Bridge in Kyiv. Prior to that, a series of explosions rocked the capital amid an air raid alert and the threat of attacks by strike drones.
