Kherson residents urged to leave due to strikes on heating facility
Residents of Kherson, particularly families with children and elderly people, were urged to leave the city due to intensified Russian attacks and the threat of prolonged disruptions to electricity and heating supplies. This was stated by regional head Oleksandr Prokudin, France 24 reports.
Damage to heating supply
According to Prokudin, the security situation in Kherson is extremely difficult. Troops of the aggressor state, Russia, are intensifying strikes on the region's critical infrastructure every day, he said.
On the night before the address, Russian forces again attacked Kherson's centralized heating supply facility with aerial bombs. It sustained very serious damage, Prokudin reported.

The regional head warned that the city could be left without electricity or heating for a prolonged period, rather than only for hours or days. He also stated that currently no region of Ukraine has a way to destroy these types of drones and aerial bombs.
City near the front line
Before Russia's invasion began in February 2022, about 280,000 people lived in Kherson. Russian troops controlled the city from March to November 2022. They are now on the opposite bank of the Dnipro River and regularly shell Kherson.
France 24 notes that Russia and Ukraine have been escalating long-range strikes for several months, with civilian infrastructure increasingly among the targets, including logistics warehouses, oil facilities and port facilities. Last winter, the Russian army repeatedly attacked Ukrainian power plants, leaving millions of people without heat and electricity.
