On August 28, Ukrainian forces carried out successful counterattacks along various sectors of the front, halting the advance of Russian troops. According to the ISW, over the past two days, the Russian military has attempted to advance, but in most cases its plans were thwarted by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

On August 26 and 27, Russian troops continued offensive operations in the north of the Kharkiv region but were unable to advance. They were halted by counterattacks from the Ukrainian military. According to a Russian military blogger, on August 27, the Ukrainian Defense Forces launched counterattacks near Izbytske and Starytsia.

Over the previous two days, the occupiers also attempted to advance in the Kupiansk direction but were unsuccessful due to resistance from the Ukrainian military. In particular, there were reports of Ukrainian Armed Forces counterattacks near Dvorichna.

At the same time, according to a source linked to the Russian Federation’s Western Military District, Ukrainian forces advanced southeast of Borova on August 27.

Furthermore, it is noted that during the counterattack, they captured several strongpoints and expanded their control over the “gray zone” near Ridkodub, Katerynivka, and Novoye. ISW had previously documented geolocation evidence of Ukrainian forces’ advances in this area and adjusted its assessment of the front line accordingly.

In the Sloviansk sector, Russian forces continued their offensive on August 26–27 but did not achieve any confirmed advances. Ukrainian forces, in turn, launched a counterattack near Lyman and, according to reports, expanded their control in the “gray zone.”

Russian offensive operations in the Dobropillia tactical area and on the Pokrovsk direction also ended unsuccessfully. Russian troops were unable to advance.

Near Novopavlivka, as well as to the northeast and south of Oleksandrivka, the occupiers carried out limited attacks but made no confirmed territorial gains.

On the evening of August 27, Russian forces attacked the town of Zmiiv in the Chuhuiv district of Kharkiv Oblast twice with rocket-powered drones. One person was killed and two others were wounded as a result of the Russian attack, including a child.

On the night of August 28, Russian forces struck the “Nova Poshta” sorting center in Sumy with four KAB missiles. The terminal was destroyed in the attack, but all employees survived.

Prior to this, Russia had attacked a Nova Poshta warehouse in the Kyiv region.

As a reminder, Russia carried out more than 860 strikes on Zaporizhzhia over the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Russian oil refinery “Orsknefteorgsintez” halted oil processing following an attack by Ukrainian drones on August 11.
