ABC News Australia publishes a historical quiz with ten questions
In Australia, ABC News Australia has published a weekly historical quiz with ten questions. The selection covers events associated with dates from September 14 to 20 and topics including sport, music, film, television, literature and voting rights.
Sport, music and television
One of the questions concerns Roger Federer’s age when he announced the end of his professional tennis career in 2022. Another asks participants to identify the country of origin of singer Carly Rae Jepsen, who released the hit Call Me Maybe on September 20, 2011.
Participants are also invited to recall who lit the cauldron at the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympic Games on September 15, 2000. Separate questions are devoted to the 1998 film that became Jackie Chan’s major Hollywood breakthrough, as well as the country where the first episode of the reality show Big Brother was broadcast in 1999.

Culture and historical dates
The quiz includes questions about a famous domain name registered on September 15, 1997, and the filming location of the comedy Monty Python’s Life of Brian, which began on September 16, 1978.
Two further tasks concern William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies, first published on September 17, 1954, and the country that on September 19, 1893 became the first to grant all women the right to vote. The final question concerns the calendar used in Britain and the British Empire before the transition to the Gregorian calendar on September 14, 1752.
